Abstract
The national French language curriculum in the Democratic Republic of the Congo is organized around thematic units. In order to operationalize this curriculum within the teaching–learning process, teachers prepare instructional plans. These plans constitute the foundation for the various classroom activities carried out throughout the school year. Their preparation takes into account school textbooks, namely anthologies. In French language teaching, an anthology contains texts grouped according to specific themes. The present study sought to assess the alignment between the themes prescribed in the national curriculum, those presented in anthologies, and those included in teachers’ instructional plans. Focusing on the materials used at the B2 level (the final year of secondary education in the Democratic Republic of the Congo), the findings reveal that, despite the existence of a national curriculum defining the objectives and content of language teaching, discrepancies exist between the themes and contents proposed in anthologies, those retained in teachers’ instructional plans, and those prescribed by the official curriculum. Such misalignment may negatively affect learners’ progression in French. Keywords : Anthology, National program, Long range plans, Topics.
